Ministries

We are still a church even though we can’t meet as a group.  We are actively working on ways to help family worship, discipleship, and encouragement for our church family.  You can still reach our staff (and each other) through office emails, text, FaceTime,  cell phones etc…  If you need contact information, please let us know and we can get it to you.

Holy Week

As of right now, we have not cancelled any Holy Week activities and services.  However, we anticipate this will change. We will make sure to communicate these details to you as they are made.

3-13-2020

In addition to the CHANGES LISTED BELOW on 3-12-2020, here are the following new Changes for this Sunday 3-15-2020.

We will only have one service at 11:00 which will also be live-streamed on Facebook.

Who should stay home and watch on Facebook?

Anyone! But, if you or anyone in your family is not feeling well, or has come into contact with someone not feeling well, or if you are in the high-risk groups, or if you are not comfortable coming, use our Facebook Live feed and worship with us virtually this Sunday at 11:00.  It’s not worth the risk to attend if you fall into any of those categories.

Note: The service will be up on Facebook for the whole day.  Enjoy that we are able to do this.  Imagine just a few years ago this was not possible.

3-12-2020

Dear Reston Pres Church Family,

We have all been made aware of COVID-19, the Coronavirus. It has spread around the world and now is in our neck of the woods.  The Session of the church would like to provide a reminder and update you about our current course of action.

First, the reminder.  Followers of Christ have something the virus cannot take or even chip away: an eternal hope in Jesus Christ.  We must remember that He is for us at all times.  This eternal hope is real and lets us live trusting Him. Many of us need to be reminded about this, and there are even more who need to hear about this. Romans 8:38-39. Watch this short snippet for deeper insight.  https://youtu.be/jljAmdtAkBw?t=1534

Second, since we are not motivated by fear we are called to especially love those who are most vulnerable amongst us.   In this case, we encourage you to take care of yourself and help take care of each other as our body of believers gathers to worship.  Mark 12:30-31.

How you can show love :

Take care of yourself, please stay home and do not attend any church events if you or your children are experiencing any signs of sickness or if you have been in close proximity to someone who you know to be infected.

Carefully follow the practical preventative measures offered by the CDC.

Hand sanitizer: we have some dispensers available at church, but please bring and use yours if you have some.

Bulletins: please don’t leave your bulletins on your chair.  Please take them home or throw them away.

How RPC will show love :

Greeting: Our ushers and greeters will be doing toe bumps and elbow taps.  We are asking everyone at RPC to do the same.

Fellowship: This is a part of who we are; we won’t get rid of this.  Please plan, as always, to stay and chat and laugh and catch up with your friends and visitors before or after the service.  Just remember to refrain from hugs, kisses, handshakes, etc.…

Hospitality: Again, this is a part of who we are.  We will only be serving refreshments that are pre-wrapped and unopened.

Offering: We will collect our tithes and offerings in the mornings. Similar to the evening service.   There will be two stations set up at the exits for attenders to place their gifts.

Mobile Giving: This is a great time to make use of mobile giving. You can contribute  from the church website or here: https://restonpres.org/give/

Communion: We will serve communion slightly differently. The juice and bread will be in separate cups for single-serve individual use.

Chairs: We will spray the chairs between each service with disinfectant and remove the materials in the backs of each chair.

Nursery/Childrens’ areas: As usual, we always clean and disinfect kids’ areas between services.

Live Stream: If you are staying home, we expect to “see you on time!” A live video stream of the 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM service will be available on Facebook.  Reston Presbyterian Church – Home

Sermons: As always, audio and video recordings of the sermon will be available here. https://restonpres.org/sunday-worship-2/sermons-2/

The elders are praying that our merciful God would come to our aid – that He would protect us, our loved ones, and those around us – that all would know He reigns supreme over the affairs of men and women. We ask you to join us in this endeavor. Take time to pray with your loved ones, friends and others.

Finally, to encourage your faith, here is a wonderful testimony about what to do with the time we are given (in addition to earnestly praying).  There is a family in our church that brought one of their kids’ soccer friends to our VBS kids camp last summer and to some of our evening services.  On Tuesday, while they were carpooling, the friend mentioned she was nervous about Fairfax County closing schools on Monday.  Right then and there, our church member shared the Gospel with her.  The girl, while sitting in the back seat, accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior.

In Christ,

-Pastor Chris on behalf of the Session
